Great Horned Owls do not make nests - they occupy unused nest sites created by other birds or even squirrels. This rubber tire nest structure was placed in this Loblolly pine tree by volunteers 3 years ago to supplement the nest sites available for our local owl population. It was occupied during the previous nesting season.

Great Horned Owls mate in December and are on the nest sometime in January, where they will lay up to 4 eggs with an
Incubation Period of 30–37 days followed by a Nestling Period of around 40 days.
